Toby's page, Oliver's baby diary.
Hi! I'm Oliver. Born 29/12/97. The cutest baby on the web. This is Toby's website.
Toby's the proud Dad of Oliver.
This site is dedicated to Oliver.

I hope Oliver doesn't grow up to be as sad
as his Dad.

20/9/98
We took the train to Brighton and Oliver lay on my lap sucking at his rattle to comfort his emerging teeth.
I sang him a hundred verses of Old McDonald's Farm.
Sam, his Mum, had to tell me what a pterodactyl sounds like.
Oliver went stiller and stiller, looking into my eyes, then fell asleep.
21/9
Oliver fell asleep Ok but woke before midnight and would not, could not settle.
Sam tried everything from leaving him to feeding him.
I got back late from wishing goodbye to Ben and tried drunkenly to calm him.
No go. Poor Oli, he cried for hours, would not even be comforted by lullabies,
till we took him into bed for a few fitful hours rest.

22/9/98
Oliver played peepo. He hid behind the calico curtain that covers our bookshelf (don't ask).
He swept back the curtain to reveal his great toothless grin.
And again, again, again.
Then he began each time to reach over and give me his Oli kiss.
Big wet mouth wide open, pressing his face to mine and holding tight
around my ears.
23/9
Sam took oli to visit Liz & baby Rudy (also Pauline & baby Page).
oliver climbed a hole flight of steep stairs.
And had much fun playing with the small people.
He was almost too excited to eat his lunch.
At bathtime Oli threw himself backwards in his usual
enthusisatic way. Shock crossed his face as he lost his balance
and plunged backwards. Then a blissed out smile when I caught him,
and he lay still in my arms like when he was small.

24/9
Went to tea with many small children and behaved impeccably.
Said "mmmm maa maa..." in his buggy at 5 minutes to bedtime
ans fell sound asleep.

30/9
Big event this week was Oli standing up. He did it last week for Sam and Ian. Tuesday night getting ready for bed. He is hanging onto the chest of drawers two feet flat on the floor. He is so busy chewing Sams Gucci watch that he doesnt even think about taking his hand off the drawers. There he stands for a second without even thinking about it and calm as you like puts his hand back and keeps his balance. Then gives me the biggest longest proudest smile.
Hes going to bed earlier and earlier, 9 oclock, half eight, even eight oclock. Which makes me and Sam feel almost like grown-ups for an hour or two. Then he wakes up - and he is waking up lots at the moment, unable to get to sleep on his own, back to two feeds a night. Last night he cried for 2 hours, poor mite. Sam and I are bracing ourselves to find a way through this.
Hes obsessed with mouths at the moment, puts his fingers in my mouth and feelsall round my teeth. Pushes my toothbrush in his mouth and looks a bit disappointed that nothing exciting happens.
On Saturday I was holding him and Sam was eating a banana. He grabbed Sams banana and stuffed the whole thing in his mouth, stretching his lips wide. Then he reached up and pushed the nana into my mouth. Gave me abig smile and then more nana.
Olis got into toast. Blissful morning as we sat on the bed and he chewed on Sams toast. Heavily masticated marmite and crumbs everywhere - it was time to change the sheets anyway. Family breakfast is nice.
Shucks - respecting copyright laws this is the best shot I can find for now.
